The Comma that Changed the World

When the asteroid collided with earth, there were four astronauts on Space Station X; two male astronauts in love with two female astronauts. The human race survived, albeit with a somewhat diminished gene pool.

 

At least, that’s what the author intended. In reality though, when the asteroid collided with earth, there were four astronauts on Space Station X; two male astronauts in love, with two female astronauts. 

 

“Bugger”, said Geoff, as he watched the Earth disintegrate far below.

 

“If only I’d brought a rubber”, mused Johnny. 

 

The moral of the story is clear; never underestimate the power of punctuation. An inadvertent comma could literally mean the difference between life and death.
